The future of data collection is here. METER introduces the new EM60G, a data logger that allows you to access data anywhere, any time. It even records of metadata, such as GPS location and barometric pressure, so you can easily keep track of where your loggers are installed. Built with a solar charging panel, you don't have to worry about changing batteries in most locations, just set it and forget it.

In early 2018, SB Safety Network announced the formation of a partnership with MetraWeather Asia and TOA Systems to build a high-resolution lightning detection network covering all of the Philippines.
Lightning is one of the most dangerous and frequently encountered weather hazards. It can take lives, cause severe injuries, damage vital infrastructure, and disrupt operations.
Scientists believe that climate change is escalating the severity of extreme weather events. More lightning strikes are anticipated and will impact South East Asia nations already vulnerable to weather events such as tropical cyclones.
Earth Networks, a global provider of hyperlocal weather intelligence today announced the creation of a new integrated service to better serve customers and partners making operational weather-related decisions. Sferic Protect combines the best of Earth Networks’ advanced lightning detection and alerting, onsite real-time weather observations, visualization tools and 24/7 meteorological event support.
Sferic Protect is a subscription-based weather intelligence solution with an advanced suite of weather management tools for emergency managers, business continuity professionals, operations directors, parks and recreation staff and others tasked with the daily management of weather concerns. It includes an onsite weather station, automated visual and audio outdoor notification system based on lightning detection, comprehensive storm visualization tools Sferic Maps and Mobile, custom severe weather alerting, plus meteorological support from Earth Networks’ staff of expert forecasters.
The VPF-730 Present Weather and Visibility Sensor from meteorological specialist Biral, has been successfully incorporated into Coastal Environmental Systems’ Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS), which has recently received certification from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
The certification approves the Coastal AWOS, including Biral’s VPF-730, for all airports in China that require CAAC certification for their weather aviation weather monitoring systems.
Nathan Neal, Sales and Marketing Director at Biral commented, “We have a long, successful partnership with Coastal Environmental Systems and supply our sensors to help create some innovative equipment and solutions. We are especially pleased to have contributed to their AWOS that has been approved by the CAAC. This has been a long and detailed process over several years. We now look forward to many more years of successful installations”
Apogee Instruments’ Full-Spectrum Quantum Sensor is now available in two new amplified voltage outputs and a digital SDI-12 output for easy integration into systems that are not designed for millivolt signals. The sensors have been designed to have all the circuitry inside the head, the same as our un-amplified sensor (SQ-500), allowing them to remain rugged and waterproof. The amplified models include the SQ-512 with a 0-2.5 V output and the SQ-515 with a 0-5 V output. The SQ-521 is a digital sensor that uses SDI-12 communication protocol.
Private weather forecasting company Skymet Weather Services has raised about $8-10 million (about Rs 51-64 crore at current exchange rate) from Germany-based InsuResilience Investment Fund. The investor acquired a 26.8 per cent stake, including that of investors, in the company.
The new MesoPRO, MetPRO, and WxPRO weather stations are ideal for customers who need research-grade measurements in a new weather station, but may not have the time to design a complete custom system.
The PRO-series weather stations consist of a datalogger, power supply, communication method, instrument mounts, and a suite of meteorological sensors that measure wind speed and direction, air temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure, solar radiation, precipitation, soil water content, and soil moisture. These measurements can be used to calculate evapotranspiration, growing-degree days, wind chill, dew point, and other weather-related parameters.
Weather networks often consist of multiple sites, and sometimes sensors or systems from a variety of vendors. Managing this type of network can be a challenge if you have to monitor different applications to view all of the data. Vaisala developed a solution to help overcome this challenge! With Observation Network Manager, you can view all of your observation systems and sensor data, regardless of the vendor, from one place. This saves time, and allows staff members to focus on other tasks.
Observation Network Manager is an automated management system that connects individual systems, sensors and devices so that you can easily monitor and control your sites, and access your weather observation data from anywhere. Learn how easy monitoring weather networks has become by watching this video.
Sigma Space release: As extreme weather events become the norm, actively measuring and tracking the aerosols in the atmosphere can provide key insights to improve forecast accuracy and timeliness. Developed for NASA and the only LiDAR approved for use in NASA’s MPLNET network, Micro Pulse LiDAR (MPL) is a portable LiDAR scanning system that operates unattended 24/7/365 to provide accurate real-time atmospheric mapping data. The results empower scientists, meteorologists and air quality professionals with an in-depth understanding of the small particles that make a big impact on our environment and health.
