The latest release of Delta-T Devices’ DeltaLINK Software (v3.7), in combination with its GP2 Data Logger and relevant sensors, enables the full ASCE/FAO-56 Penman-Monteith equation for calculating reference evapotranspiration (ETo).
This enhancement also applies to the WS-GP2 Weather Station – an advanced research-grade system.
ETo is calculated by the GP2 Data Logger using the available measurements of relative humidity, wind speed, solar radiation, and air temperature. This ET implementation includes the ability to vary crop albedo/LAI, canopy resistances, crop height and sensor heights.
The functionality can be easily accessed by users as a selectable recording option within DeltaLINK. Calculated ET can be recorded as hourly and daily values – and may be used in further bespoke calculations or to guide field irrigation decisions.

Scottish Power installs Vaisala's Optimus OPT100 DGA Monitor at a number of key sites throughout the UK.
Vaisala, a global leader in environmental and industrial measurement, has supplied leading British energy provider Scottish Power with a number of its Optimus OPT100 Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) Monitors. The DGA monitors are installed by Elimpus Ltd to provide real-time updates on the transformer condition at key sites.
At a site in Scotland's central belt, the OPT100 will give continuous updates on a 1000MVA auto-transformer, helping to protect it against the effects of solar flares: periods when intense high-energy radiation is emitted from the sun's surface, causing radio and magnetic disturbances on Earth.
When coupled with local geology, solar flares have the potential to affect power transformers' magnetic circuit, leading to inefficient power transmission and significant damage to the transformers. The OPT100 will monitor for the impact of these currents on the asset, allowing Scottish Power to identify changes in transformer health as a consequence of solar flare activity and carry out proactive maintenance if required.
Baron, the worldwide leader in critical weather intelligence, working closely with Baron’s in-country partner Mazzak, a sister company of JMI group announced that the Bangladesh Air force will purchase one additional Baron 350,000-watt C-Band Dual Polarization radars.
This radar is of the Gen 3 series produced by Baron. The radar will be placed on the Air Force bases located in Chittagong. The benefit to having a dual polarization radar is in its ability to it analyze hydrometeor returns in a cross-section, retrieving accurate precipitation measurements. The radar will help expand the Bangladesh Airforce’s network and strengthen Baron’s relationship with Bangladesh and their Airforce.
Boulder, Colorado, September 24, 2018 – Orbital Micro Systems (OMS), a leader in advanced instrumentation for small satellite missions and weather intelligence analytics, announced the delivery of the first ever commercially owned and operated space-based passive microwave radiometer for atmospheric observation to Clyde Space in Glasgow, Scotland, for satellite integration. Employing proven technology utilized in many larger weather monitoring platforms such as the Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS) aboard the Joint Polar Satellite System, the innovative OMS radiometer will deliver highly-accurate temperature, humidity, and precipitation data critical for business decisions at a fraction of the cost of heritage government programs.
The mission is part of the In-Orbit Demonstrator (IOD) Program, funded by Innovate UK and managed by the Satellite Applications Catapult. OMS is on track to launch six to eight satellites in 2019 to establish its Global Environmental Monitoring System (GEMS) constellation.
