Earth Networks, a leading global provider of hyper-local weather intelligence to broadcast affiliates today announced a partnership with earthTV to create Sferic Live, a new weather and video content service for broadcasters that combines the world’s largest camera network with data from Earth Networks real-time weather observation network. The announcement was made ahead of the AMS 45th Conference on Broadcast Meteorology, an annual conference focused on industry innovations in broadcast meteorology.
Earth Networks, creator and former operator of WeatherBug, operates the world’s largest professionally managed weather observation and lightning detection network, alongside a growing network of live video cameras. The cooperation with earthTV expands Earth Networks camera network globally and integrates earthTV’s market-leading video distribution technology to provide high-resolution video to multiple endpoints.
The robust network with stunning live HD images is purpose-built for broadcasters to deploy live video feeds from local markets to TV, web, or mobile properties. It also seamlessly integrates with industry-leading broadcast graphics systems such as Baron and WSI to create compelling visual weather stories. Now Earth Networks TV Broadcast partners can get live streaming video from featured cameras around the U.S. and the world and integrate it into every media property they operate.
Jim Anderson, Senior Vice President Global Sales at Earth Networks said, “We are thrilled to launch this partnership with earthTV. Our local affiliate broadcasters are constantly looking for new content to boost viewer engagement. Sferic Live offers unparalleled opportunities to enrich on-air forecasts and newsgathering such as skycam time lapses, high quality live local and international pictures, and real-time observational metrics from the world’s best weather network.”
Nikolaus Lohmann CEO of earthTV added, “Weather and images go hand in hand. This new partnership exposes the synergies between beautiful imagery and comprehensive weather information. We are pleased to expand the distribution of our global camera network with Earth Networks to bring exciting new content possibilities to U.S. broadcast customers.”
